Confessions of an Actress by Melissa Holm
Everyday is a new sucker punch.
Every day.
Another woman?
Another woman?
Then another woman?
And this man calls me the devil?
And another sucker punch?
And another woman?
Who hasn’t?
And I am trying.
Publicly crying.
Why?
Because I get sucker punched.
And I keep trying.
And one of the women, she tells me:
You just have to be the biggest energy.
(That’s not a direct quote.)
I’m just being me.
I just am.
I am.
And you tell me:
“You should be an actress.”
Who’s acting?
Just try me.
Sucker punch me.
I ask:
Where are you?
I am… just being me.
“You should be an actress.”
Joke’s on you:
I already am.
I’ve done a musical or two.
Where are you?
And you sucker punched me.
Where are you?
“You should be an actress.”
I already am—I’m the lead.
And I can distinguish between the stage and real life.
Another woman?! Really…
Man…
You should be an actor.
